For Mom

Stampin' Up! has posted the lists of retiring stamps sets and accessories early this year!  Click on the picture above (and scroll down) to find the lists.   Get them before their gone!

Featured below is a stamp set that will be retiring on May 31st.  I like this set, because it has nice words for the inside of your card.  They work for both Mother's day or Father's Day, as well as birthday or just because.  I am hoping for more word sets in the new 2012-13 catalog that are versatile.  (I am pretty picky when it comes to words).

Need a little something to hold a pair of earrings, a bracelet or some yummy chocolates?  Add a matching Petite Purse with a treasure inside!  I showed this purse in a recent post using the same package of DSP (hostess option in the current catalog)  Love this paper!  In this purse, I have added a scallop on the edge of the flap.  So cute!

To make the flower, I used two flowers punched from the Fancy Flower Punch (118073) in Melon Mambo, one full flower in Concord Crush and one inside flower in Bashful Blue, both from the Blossom Bouquet Triple Layer Punch (122464), which is also retiring, and a Lucky Limeade Designer Printed Brad from the In Color pack (122940).  I worked each flower between my fingers to break down the fibers and shape the petals, then used the paper piercing tool to poke the hole for the brad.  It is adhered to the card with a dimensional.

Stamps:  Messages For Mom (117016 [W]; 118580 [C])
Ink:  Concord Crush
Paper:  Bashful Blue, Melon Mambo, Concord Crush, Cheerful Treat DSP (hostess selection)
Accessories:  Metallic Brads (119741), In Color Designer Printed Brads (122940), Bashful Blue 3/8" Taffeta Ribbon (Retired, 5/8" Satin on retiring accessories list!), Dimensionals (104430)
Tools:  Large Tag (119876) & Ex-Large Tag (119866) Punches, Fancy Flower Punch (118073), Blossom Bouquet Triple Layer Punch (122464), Paper Piercing Tool (116631) & Mat Pack (105826)

Mixed Bunch in Pinks or Blues...

I got the idea of heat embossing with white embossing powder using this stamp set in the Stampin' Success Magazine.  I love the look.   I made this clean and simple card first in the blues and then thought it would be great in pinks as well.  You decide which you like better.

This stamp set, Mixed Bunch, and punch, Blossom Punch, are in the Occasions Mini Catalog, soon to be gone (unless it ends up in the new catalog that will come out on June 1st.  That's what I am hoping for!)  The words on the Blues card is from Friendly Phrases, and the words on the Pinks card came from a retired set.

Stamps:  Mixed Bunch (125535[W]; 125537[C]), Friendly Phrases (126149[W]; 126151[C])
Ink:  Whisper White Craft Ink, Not Quite Navy or Melon Mambo
Paper: Pool Party & Not Quite Navy or Regal Rose & Melon Mambo, Whisper White, Certainly Celery, Certainly Celery from the Subtles Pack of DSP
Accessories:  5/8" Certainly Celery Grograin Ribbon (Retired, but 5/8" Satin is available 117288), White Embossing Powder (109132), Basic Pearls (119247), Dimensionals (104403)
Tools:  Blossom Punch (125603), 3/4" Circle Punch (119873)

Tea Shoppe ~ Mojo Monday237

Stampin' Up!'s list of retiring stamp sets have been posted!  Time is running out; they will be gone after May 31st.

This week's Mojo Monday has a fun sketch challenge to try.

I thought a trio of dancing teacups would be the perfect centerpiece for this card.

Each teacup was stamped separately (I used painter's tape to mask off the other cups) so that I got a better image than I would have using markers.  This also allows for a wider margin to center the 1-3/8" circle punch just so.

The Marina Mist strip has a torn edge and adds just a little color.  The 3/8" Taffeta Ribbon is one of my favorite ribbons.  It is easy to get a nice knot in this width and texture.

Stamps:  Tea Shoppe (125545 [W]; 125547[C]), Kindness Matters (122900 [W]; 122902 [C])
Ink:  Perfect Plum, Marina Mist, Regal Rose
Paper:  Naturals White, Perfect Plum, Sahara Sand, Marina Mist, Whisper White
Accessories:  Perfect Plum 3/8" Taffeta Ribbon (122987), Basic Rhinestones (119246), Dimensionals (104430)
Tools:  Finial Press Embossing Folder (115963), Perfect Polka Dots Embossing Folder (117335), Scallop Edge Border Punch (119882), Itty Bitty Shapes Punch Pack (118309)

On a personal note, I lost my beautiful 10 year old Bernese Mountain Dog yesterday.  She was ravaged by an aggressive cancerous tumor that came on so quickly, I can hardly believe that just 3 months ago she acted perfectly normal.  She was so good with the children and so very sweet and gentle.  A wonderful dog and companion.  Goodbye my loyal friend.

My Bernese used to lay nearby as I sat at my desk making cards.  She liked to lay right where I would need to walk.  I was constantly stepping over her (a big step it was!) to get to my paper cutter.  I think she did it on purpose so that I wouldn't forget she was near.

Happy Easter Bunny

Happy Easter everyone!

I wanted to make a fun Easter card for a child, so when I saw this cute punched bunny idea on mbgdesigns, I decided to try one myself.  I got out my punches and started playing around.  I ended up with this little guy sitting on fringed grass surrounded by Easter eggs.

Here are the punches I used:
  • Ears: Blossom Petals Builder (121808) 2 sizes of petals
  • Head:  Ornament (119847)
  • Eyes & Nose:  Owl Builder (118074)
  • Cheeks:  Wing from Bird Builder (117191)
  • Body:  Extra-Large Oval for pink tummy (119859); Large Oval (119855) - cut 2 and glue to the back of the pink XL Oval side by side so that they meet at the bottom.
  • Front paws:  3/4"Circle Punch (119873)
  • Feet:  Large Oval, 1-3/8" x 5/8" Oval (Ret'd), Cupcake Builder (121807) for pink toes
  • Sign:  Decorative Label (120907)
  • Teeth:  rectangle cut by hand, black line drawn to make "front teeth"
I used a sponge dauber to add a little ink (Soft Suede & Pretty In Pink) to all the edges for dimension.

The stamp set I used is Easter Blossoms which is retired, sadly.

Paper:  Naturals Ivory, Soft Suede, Pretty In Pink, Pool Party, Whisper White, Basic Black, Lucky Limeade
Ink:  Pool Party, Pretty In Pink, Wisteria Wonder, Soft Suede
Other Accessories & Tools:  Basic Pearls (119247), Dimensionals (104430), White Gel Pen (105021), Sponge Daubers (102892), Black Marker

Goofy Stuff Birthday - PP#89

It's April!  And this weeks challenge at The Paper Players has a theme of "Tickle your funny bone" in keeping with Humor Month.

Here is my whimsical take on the theme:

These little monkeys look like they are ready for mischief as they celebrate someone's birthday.  I cut out the monkeys and balloons by hand, but the branch is from the Bird Builder Punch, and the clouds are the cupcake top from the Cupcake Builder Punch.

Stamps:  Fox & Friends (117020 [W]; 118565 [C]), Party This Way (118744 [W]; 120609 [C]), Smarty Pants (115070)
Ink:  Pacific Point, Daffodil Delight, Tangerine Tango, Chocolate Chip
Paper:  Naturals Ivory, Tangerine Tango, Baja Breeze, Lucky Limeade, Very Vanilla
Accessories:  Baker's Twine (124262), Dimensionals (104430)
Tools:  Bird Builder Punch (117191), Cupcake Builder Punch (121807)

I love how this fun card turned out.  I never would have made this card if I hadn't had the "tickle your funny bone" theme in mind as I looked through my stamps.  Thank you Paper Players for hosting such a fun theme this week!
